Alabama Women in Business (AWIB) provides women entrepreneurs in diverse sectors with opportunities to interact and develop strategic alliances.  The corporation encourages, supports and educates women who own and operate businesses by both improving the environment for women entrepreneurs in small and growing businesses and supporting women in established businesses.  In addition, AWIB strives to assist its members to grow personally and professionally by fostering leadership by businesswomen in the community.

AWIB is a 501(c)(6) organization that represents the interests of women across all sectors, including manufacturing, transportation, retail, service, professional, non-profit, financial, health care, arts, hospitality, education, and others. AWIB seeks and values a diverse and inclusive membership, encouraging participation by all business owners regardless of race, religion, age, sexual orientation, national origin or disability.  The organization is supported by member dues, which are assessed on an annual basis.

AWIB holds monthly meetings – at lunchtime or after-hours. Most meetings include a programmed speaker on topics of interest, while some meetings are social for interactive networking. Members are encouraged to invite guests to attend; however, after attending three meetings, a guest is expected to apply for membership.
